Saco Valley bowlers roll to title:
Saco Valley Sports Center's team of Joann Daly and Scott Layne combined
for a 2931 to take first place in the annual Ralph Pearson Memorial
Tournament held this past weekend at the Good Time Lanes in Lisbon Falls.
This was a 10-string mixed doubles event with handicap added. Fifty-three
teams from all over the state competed.
Joann had a scratch score of 1024, highlighted by a personal high game of
141 in the second string. Scott rolled 1247 with a 162 game in the seventh.
When shes not bowling, Joann likes to play hockey at the Ham Arena on both
the co-ed and womens hockey league, while also helping to coach the Lake
Region Rink Rat girls' hockey team.
Both bowlers compete weekly on the Friday mixed league at Saco Valley
Sports Center.
For Scott, its his second win of the season. In March, he carried the Saco
Valley men to win the team tournament held at the Hobbs Lucky Lanes in
South Paris. Scott bowled a super 647 series for five games averaging 129 !
His teammates were Dave Wilson, Frank Layne, Larry and Butch Davis.
The next tournament for Scott will be the Maine Open All Events
Championships in Brewer April 19th. Scott grabbed the 12th seed in the
field of 12. In round one, Scott faces the sixth seed Frank Layne- " his
father:- in a head to head five string match.
Scott is a senior at Fryeburg Academy. He also enjoys hockey and plays for
the Academy.
Other Saco Valley teams in the Pearson Classic were:
25th Place, Judy Elderkin and Frank Layne, 2783. Judys scratch score was
926, while Frank logged a 1177.
30th Place, Anne and Tom Turner, 2762. Anne's scratch score was 995, and
Tom's 997.




On Thursday April 24, 2008 - 100 of us from Saco Valley met at the
Sea Dogs game in Portland for a bowling night. 9 yr. old David Jordan
of Fryeburg, Me. got to throw the 1st pitch and got to shake the hand
of one of the players. We had a great time.
